Celebrating International Women’s Day

This year’s theme for 8 March is Inspire Inclusion: to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness and take action.

Friday 8 March is International Women’s Day (IWD) which falls in Women’s History Month. This year’s theme for IWD is “#InspireInclusion”. To “Inspire Inclusion” is to collectively forge a more inclusive world for women where women’s rights are non-negotiable.

PCS and the national women’s forum (NWF) continue to fight for gender equality and challenge bias, stereotypes, bullying and discrimination in all its forms. We value diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces for all. Together, we are stronger.

Women reps have written a series of blogs and recorded a set of videos on how they became active in the union and why it’s important to inspire inclusion. A poster and social media/Zoom background have also been created.

Join us making herstory

On Monday 11 March from 12.30- 1.30pm, the national women’s forum is delivering a women only event on Teams on our theme for Women’s History Month “PCS – We make history, Herstory”.

Women members will hear from national women’s forum reps Ruth Henderson, Sharon McLean and Angela Grant and Liz McGachey, national executive committee members. Each speaker will talk about their personal stories of union activism. Liz will share the piece of creative writing she did at the Herstory Project.

We encourage women members and reps to attend and share their “Herstory” and bring their colleagues with them. The forum would like women to tell us at the event what led them to join PCS, why it’s important to have more women activists in the union and how being women advocates/reps can build confidence and a sense of empowerment.
