Fantastic response to Medical Aid for Palestinians collection in Leeds

After being blocked by HMRC from holding a fundraising collection on-site, PCS reps in the department's Leeds office have had a great response from members, to an outdoor collection for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians

After HMRC refused to allow PCS reps in its Leeds office to hold an on-site collection for the registered charity Medical Aid for Palestinians, on 7 March the Leeds reps held a collection outside their office, raising a fantastic £1,000 in just a few hours.

Martin Kelsey, PCS Revenue and Customs Group Secretary, said:

“Congratulations to our reps for holding the humanitarian line by organising the collection; and of course, many thanks to our Leeds members for their kindness and generosity.

All of this positivity stands in stark contrast to HMRC, who still insist on putting obstacles in the way of its staff, hampering them from vital fundraising, aimed at providing medical aid to the biggest humanitarian crisis on the planet.”

With the number of deaths in Gaza now topping 30,000, more than 20,000 of them women and children, the need for aid is greater than ever. PCS in Revenue and Customs Group are already planning to bring all of the branches in the department together, for a day of fundraising activity for Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Look out for more details about the day of activity, which is scheduled for Thursday 18 April. Any member who wants to get involved with the day of activity should contact their local PCS representative or email the group office.
