NEC to consult on PCS Digital changes

A proposal that means planned changes to reps’ portal PCS Digital affecting its functionality to activists having to be agreed by the NEC was approved by PCS annual delegate conference.

Motion A34 from R&C Telford said a promised review of the PCS website and development of PCS Digital should be carried out no later than 30 June and said that any digital tools implemented by PCS must be designed around the needs of branches.

Pat, who moved the motion, said: “We have heard from Mark Serwotka say we’re in the fight of our lives and the biggest campaign for years and it’s vital that we win it. Vital to our success is having effective digital tools.

“To win our fight and maxmimise turnout in ballots we need the right digital tools.”

He said the NEC needs to be accountable for any changes made in terms of the functionality of PCS Digital.

Emma from DWP Essex said it is fundamental reps have the tools to succeed in their union work.

Marie from DWP City of Sunderland branch called for remittance of the motion and said we need to look at how the digital tools have benefited the national campaign.

Pete from DWP Birmingham South also called for remittance and said: “There does need to be oversight and direction from the NEC but it should not be too prescriptive.”

A call to remit the motion, which would have meant the NEC considering its terms and conditions but not being bound it to carry it out, was defeated.

The motion was carried.
