New PCS Acting President announced

Fran Heathcote’s election as general secretary created a vacancy for national president.

At its meeting yesterday (18), the national executive committee (NEC) agreed that current deputy president Martin Cavanagh will fill the national president vacancy from 1 February when Mark Serwotka retires and Fran takes up her position of general secretary.

Martin’s move created a vacancy for deputy president. Kevin McHugh will  move from vice president (VP) to deputy president.

The rules allow for the NEC to elect a new VP from its existing members, and the NEC voted for Ian Pope to take up the vacant VP position. The resultant vacancy for an ordinary NEC member, will remain unfilled for the remainder of the term of office.

The position of PCS national president is elected annually by all members, alongside the NEC, and nominations opened for all these positions yesterday (18).
