The Spirit of Solidarity this Christmas

Matt Turner, young members’ convenor in Yorkshire & Humber, has run a PCS stall to raise money for a local homeless charity this Christmas.

As Christmas is a time for giving, the Yorkshire and Humber young members’ network called upon the good people of Leeds to put their hands in their pockets for a local charity. Sponsored by HMRC’s Leeds branch, Alex (deputy regional convenor) and I ran a stall in the Wellington Place government hub in aid of Leeds Homeless Street Angels.

This award-winning charity supports homeless people in Leeds by providing food and clothing to those in need as well as supporting people out on the street into a stable environment. Our stall’s main offering was a competition in which participants had to guess how many sweets were in two glass jars excellently put together by Alex - making two very fine Christmas presents for the lucky winner!

The stall did of course also provide us with an opportunity to showcase our union and hand out some merchandise to our members, which now includes two new comrades who signed up on the day. After counting lots of sweets - 163 to be precise - and our donations, we raised over £100 for the Homeless Street Angels to support their essential work this winter.york
