Stop Braverman, Stop the Hate Demo, Saturday 4 November

The demo outside the Home Office building in London is intended to be a celebration of unity and diversity, with the slogan ‘Unity not Division’ at its heart.

The demo on 4 November is supported by trade unions, including PCS, NEU and Aslef, and a range of climate groups, social justice groups and anti-fascist groups including Stand Up To Racism, Care 4 Calais and the Peace and Justice Project.

The protest is against the use of scapegoating language by the government, and in particular home secretary Suella Braverman, that is stirring up hatred and fear, creating division and opening the door to racists and the far right. It will demonstrate against the government's policies on refugees and the attacks on the right to protest.

The demo will be held outside the Home Office building at 2 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DF from noon on Saturday 4 November.

Refugees and speakers from the organisations directly supporting them will address the demo, but the main focus will be on it being a positive, vibrant and supportive demonstration. There will be a stage with live music and performances.

There will be workshop sessions focussing on issues such as Safe Passage for Refugees and ways of building against the far-right groups that have targeted hotels and facilities hosting refugees and asylum seekers in recent months.

Adding his support on behalf of PCS, general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “Suella Braverman and the Tories’ rhetoric on refugees and asylum seekers only serves to stir up hatred and division.  We must unite to ensure people escaping oppression and torture in other countries are offered safe and legal access to claim asylum in the UK without resort to the dangerous Channel crossing and exploitation by people-smuggling gangs."

The demo will finish at around 1.30pm to allow supporters to attend a Palestine Solidarity Campaign demonstration in Trafalgar Square at 2.30pm, calling for an immediate ceasefire in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
