PCS calls on ministers to intervene as dispute with outsourced companies escalates

Union members announce new strike dates and ballots

The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union today escalates its strike campaign against outsourced companies delivering service to four government departments.

The union has announced a further month of strike action against OCS at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in East Kilbride (weekdays, Jan 22 - Feb 28) and will ballot members employed by ISS for strike action at the Department for Education, the Cabinet Office and the Canary Wharf Hub.

PCS is already in dispute with ISS at the Department for Science, Information and Technology, Department for Business and Trade and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “Our members are fed up with being treated like second class citizens in government buildings.

“They deliver vital services to keep civil service departments running effectively yet are forced onto the Real Living Wage/London Living Wage, receive no company sick pay and receive just the statutory minimum annual leave.

“Ministers must intervene in this dispute to ensure our members receive the pay, terms and conditions they deserve because they, the contractors and the Government Property Agency have roles to play in delivering a settlement to these disputes.”
