PCS responds to Lord Rose's "outdated" WFH comments on Panorama
Union says there is plenty of proof to show productivity increases when you employ a flexible workforce
Replying to Lord Rose’s comments about working from home on the BBC's Panorama documentary this evening, Public and Commercial Services (PCS) general secretary Fran Heathcote said:
“As Panorama shows, there are huge benefits to working from home – for the employee, the employer, the environment and the economy – so for someone who benefits from presenteeism at its most naked, earning £361 a day simply by turning up to the House of Lords, to be allowed to define ‘proper work’ is as anachronistic as it is inappropriate.
“There’s plenty of proof to show productivity increases when you employ a flexible workforce, and enlightened employers know that, which is perhaps why the BBC had to go to someone who’s retired and who holds outdated views to present a contrary opinion.”
