Whitehall workers at DESNZ in Whitehall vote for strike action

PCS members employed by ISS in dispute over pay, health and safety and redundancy terms

Security guards, cleaners, receptionists and other facilities management workers employed by ISS at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in Whitehall have voted unanimously for strike action

The 57 Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union members voted 100% for action in a dispute over pay, health and safety and redundancy terms.

The union is calling for ministers to immediately intervene to resolve the dispute and then, later, to sit down and agree to a programme of insourcing to prevent further issues.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “Our members at DESNZ have said enough is enough – it’s time they received fair pay and conditions for the important work they do keeping the department running.

“As we move into 2025, there’s an easy solution hiding in plain sight – ministers could do what they promised before the General Election and bring all outsourced contracts back in-house.

“They would then be responsible for their workers’ terms and conditions so would have no excuse not to address our concerns and resolve this dispute.”
