I didn’t become a PCS union rep for the title. I took on the role because workers need a voice, a genuine one, in the rooms where decisions are made. Lately, I’ve stopped being surprised when management fails to listen. Too often the gloves have had to come off because of the lack of respect.
Who really makes the decisions in the civil service, HR or managers? Too often, unpopular calls are brushed off as “HR’s decision,” but the truth is different. PCS argues that hiding behind HR corrodes trust, disempowers managers, and hurts staff. It’s time for policies that support managers to lead, not outsource accountability.
Earlier this week, I attended a grievance hearing on behalf of a PCS member who raised serious allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace.
