PCS women lead the change

This Women’s History Month, PCS is celebrating the women who keep our union strong - and calling on even more women to step forward and lead the change.

Women are the backbone of PCS. Every day, women provide support to colleagues, challenge injustice, and organise for fairer workplaces. Yet women remain under‑represented in many formal union roles, and continue to face challenges including pay inequality, job insecurity, caring responsibilities, and workplace discrimination. These are exactly the issues that require women’s voices at the centre of union decision‑making.

Leading the change doesn’t have to start with a committee position. It starts with getting involved - attending your first branch meeting, supporting a campaign, or becoming a workplace contact. But one of the most powerful routes into union activism is joining a PCS national or regional equality network. These networks create safe, supportive spaces where women can connect, build confidence, share experiences, and develop leadership skills alongside others who understand the challenges working women face.

Our equality networks are not just forums - they are incubators for future leaders.

This year, we are encouraging PCS women to take that next step:

  • Join your regional women’s network and help shape local organising
  • Engage with the national women’s network to influence union policy and campaigns
  • Share your experiences so we can challenge inequality collectively.

When women organise together, confidence grows, skills develop, and leadership flourishes.

We also need more women to step forward as reps, branch officers, delegates, and negotiators. When women’s voices are present, decisions are stronger, more representative, and rooted in lived experience. PCS will support you through training, mentoring, and a community of activists who will stand beside you.

If you’ve ever said, “Someone needs to fix this” - you can be that someone.

Imagine every PCS workplace with more women reps.
Imagine every region with a thriving women’s equality network.
Imagine a union shaped by women’s leadership at every level.

PCS women have always been changemakers. In 2026, let’s not just be part of the movement, let’s lead the change.
