1926 General Strike Centenary - Newcastle
2026 marks the centenary of the 1926 General Strike - the biggest rupture in society since the civil war of the 1640s. PCS is supporting two shows written by North East Playwright Ed Waugh commemorating the General Strike.
On Sunday, 12 July, following its sell-out north east run of seven theatres in November 2024, The Cramlington Train Wreckers transfers to Newcastle Theatre Royal for two performances at 3 pm and 7.30 pm. The play is about the eight Northumberland miners who were imprisoned for 48 years for inadvertently derailing the Flying Scotsman during the General Strike. A huge and sustained campaign by the labour movement got them released early.
