Derby’s Silk Mill Lockout procession and festival
Derby area trades union council invite you to join the Derby Silk Mill Festival 2026, commemorating the lockout of 1833/34, and celebrating Derby's proud industrial and trade union history.
The Silk Mill lockout holds a special place in our Midlands history of industrial disputes and trade unionism, and the festival is an opportunity to celebrate that legacy while looking ahead to the future of our movement.
The day begins with a procession from Derby Market Place, with community groups and union banners. The procession will set off at 11:00am, with the march assembling from 10:00am.
The procession will end at the Cathedral Green, Full St, Derby DE1 3AF. From noon there will be speeches and live music, alongside union and campaign group stalls, and family activities.
Please bring banners and help make this year’s festival a strong and visible show of unity.
