Register online and join the national black members committee (NBMC) as we mark Windrush Day, an annual commemoration of the arrival of the Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks in 1948 and the lasting contribution of the Windrush generation to Britain.

This online event will explore the legacy of the Windrush generation, the challenges it faced, and the continuing importance of tackling racism and inequality in our workplaces and communities today.

Speakers include:

  • Tracey Hylton, vice-chair of NBMC and Windrush descendant
  • Michelle Codrington-Rodgers, TUC anti-racism lead
  • Bill Hern, author of Windrush Pioneer and Champion

The speakers will be followed by a Q&A session.

Windrush Day is an opportunity to reflect on the contribution of Caribbean communities to Britain, recognise the role trade unions have played in challenging discrimination, and consider how we can continue to build fairer and more inclusive workplaces for all.

The event will also examine the lessons of the Windrush scandal and why solidarity, equality and anti-racism remain central to the trade union movement.

Whether you want to learn more about Windrush history, understand its relevance to working people today, or hear from leading speakers on these issues, we encourage you to attend.
