DWP members in Lincoln to be balloted for strike action over office closure

Over 100 members of staff in Lincoln City Hall Service Centre are at risk of redundancy as a result of the DWP’s decision to close the office. Lincoln’s relatively isolated geographical position means that the majority of the staff working there will be unable to relocate either within the DWP or by moving to another government department without incurring unsustainable travel costs or journey times.

PCS has called on the DWP to reverse this cruel decision and allow staff in Lincoln to keep their jobs and remain working for the DWP in Lincoln. The loss of DWP jobs in Lincoln will have a major impact on the community.

So far  DWP has refused to talk to PCS citing a 2016 estates strategy that states that DWP offices in the future estate must have at least 300 staff working in them. If the DWP perseveres with this strategy, then thousands of DWP jobs could be put at risk. PCS urges the DWP to get round the table and talk about their flawed estates strategy and particularly the decision to close Lincoln Service Centre.

PCS is urging members in Lincoln to vote YES for strike action so PCS is able to put the maximum amount of pressure on the DWP to reverse the decision.

The ballot opens on Wednesday 24 September and closes at noon on Friday 10 October. 

Anyone working in DWP Lincoln Service Centre who is not yet a PCS members will automatically be sent a ballot paper if they join PCS before the start of the ballot.
