Fighting the far-right and supporting trans and non-binary colleagues
Learn about the Scottish Executive Committee’s main equality-related areas of focus for the rest of 2026.
Equality issues remain a major area of concern for our members in Scotland. We have seen worrying efforts to implement legislation intended to harm minority groups, as well as the persistent rise of the far right.
After receiving mandates from two recent policy conferences, the Scottish executive committee’s (SEC) work will be focused on the following areas:
- Mobilising members across Scotland to come out in support of demonstrations and actions against the rise of the far right, and fascist ideology.
- Remaining active and vocal in supporting our trans and non-binary colleagues in public life and their places of work.
- Supporting Scotland For Decrim’s campaign for the full decriminalisation of sex work in Scotland.
- Campaigning on the rights of neurodivergent workers with the Neurodivergent Members' Forum and STUC Disabled Workers' Committee.
Trade unions have a long and storied history of standing alongside marginalised groups in solidarity. PCS’s successful opposition to the abhorrent Rwanda deportations legislation shows how vital it is that we continue to condemn vicious rhetoric and campaigns from far-right groups.
We welcome any contact from members, branches and groups for options for collaborating on campaigns fighting on equalities issues, and will continue our support for branches with local organising efforts.
