PCS joins thousands at Durham Miners’ Gala
PCS members joined many thousands of people for the annual Durham Miners’ Gala on Saturday.
Members of our young members’ network ran the PCS stall and were enthused and energised by the event. Speakers called on the government to change course to prevent the rise of Reform in our communities.
Demands raised from the platform included:
- full insourcing of public sector contracts
- repair of public services
- sectoral pay bargaining and the full implementation of the Employment Rights Act.
The gala is funded by ‘Marras,’ – a Durham miners’ term for a trusted friend or workmate who can be relied on in times of need – who make contributions throughout the year. Without the Marras, the gala could not happen.
You can invest in the gala by becoming a Marra. You will help ensure the gala survives, and thrives, and is here to inspire generations to come.
If you become a Marra by signing up for £2 a month/£24 a year or more, you will receive the official gala brochure in the run-up to each Big Meeting when speakers address the crowd in Durham. You will also be entitled to a 20% discount on official Durham Miners’ Gala camping.
