PCS Statement on the Middle East

The statement has been issued in response to the escalation of violence and military action.

PCS is deeply concerned by the escalation of violence and military action across the Middle East.

As attention turned to the Israeli-Iranian conflict, the settlement-building in the West Bank, the slaughter in Gaza and the kidnapping of Palestinians into detention in Israel carries on. The remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza must be released.

In recent months, Israel has bombed Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and now Iran. How many more countries have to be attacked? How many more innocent people have to die before our politicians act?

Israel has been emboldened by the continued support it receives from the British and American governments: the lack of meaningful sanctions, or of a full arms embargo.

If our governments will not act, then we must. We must step up our protests, step up our campaigning for the recognition of the Palestinian state, and step up our call for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.

PCS stands in support of civil liberties, supporting the right to peaceful protest and non-violent direct action.

We want to see an end to military action, terrorism and nuclear proliferation. PCS is opposed to increases in military spending, which invariably lead only to conflict and war.
