AGM season is here and your voice matters
AGM season is upon us and across the Midlands branches are meeting to review the year just gone and, crucially, to shape the year ahead. Branch annual general meetings are not just a formality; they are one of the most important democratic spaces in our union.
AGMs give members the chance to hear what their branch has been doing on their behalf, from casework and campaigns to negotiations and organising. They are also where branch officers are held to account, where financial reports are scrutinised, and where priorities are debated and agreed. This is members democracy in action.
At a time when PCS members continue to face attacks on pay, jobs, pensions and working conditions, it has never been more important to engage.
Decisions taken at branch AGMs influence how we respond locally and feed into the wider regional and national strategy of the union. Whether it is deciding what motions to submit, what campaigns to prioritise, or who represents you, AGMs matter.
AGMs are also about participation and renewal. They are an opportunity for new activists to step forward, to stand for officer roles, or simply to get more involved. Every rep started somewhere, and AGM season is often where confidence grows and new voices are heard. A strong branch is built on active members, not just a small handful carrying the load.
If you have never attended your branch AGM before, this is the month to start. Ask questions, raise issues affecting your workplace, and have your say. Your branch is only as strong and representative as the members who turn up and take part.
PCS is at its best when members are engaged, informed, and involved. AGM season is your chance to make sure your branch reflects you and the issues you care about. Check the date, attend if you can, and be part of shaping the future of our union in the Midlands.
