AGM season is upon us and across the Midlands branches are meeting to review the year just gone and, crucially, to shape the year ahead. Branch annual general meetings are not just a formality; they are one of the most important democratic spaces in our union.
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of our friend and comrade John Freeman, known to so many as Freemo.
As Midlands regional secretary, I recently had the honour of speaking at Burton trades council about the life and legacy of Vale Rawlins, a name that deserves to be remembered by everyone in the trade union movement.
In PCS, we don’t just fight workplace battles, we challenge the systems that cause them. From pay restraint to privatisation, many of the issues our members face day to day are the direct result of political decisions. That’s why political education isn’t an optional extra; it’s essential to our organising.
