Border Force Maritime workers to strike
Over 120 PCS members who patrol UK waters, including the English Channel, will take strike action on 14 November.
PCS members who work for Border Force Maritime will strike on Friday 14 November over frozen allowances and unresolved changes to terms and conditions.
Their roles include patrolling for smuggling or unauthorised entry into the UK, boarding vessels for inspection, rapid response to incidents at sea (including small boats crossings), and working with Special Forces on counter-terrorism and narcotics operations.
The members are furious at being forced to wait more than six years for the results of a payment review into allowances for their specialist roles.
During months of negotiations, their concerns have not been addressed and formal proposal deadlines have been repeatedly missed by the employer.
PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said:
"Our members in Border Force Maritime are preparing themselves for a full day of hard-hitting strike action that will illustrate how vital, dangerous and demanding their jobs are.
"It is time for management to come round the table and find a fair resolution that truly recognises the complex and challenging nature of our members' work."
