How we will hold Scottish MSPs' feet to the fire
Read about the work PCS Scotland will be doing to ensure the new Scottish Government delivers on our key demands.
Ahead of the recent Holyrood elections, PCS Scotland’s main objective was to secure a Scottish government that is committed to delivering on our equality, transparency, tax and workplace justice agendas.
We used the election as an opportunity to not only increase turnout but to encourage PCS members to vote for candidates who have pledged to further our key demands.
The Scottish executive committee’s (SEC) set out eight key election demands in advance of the election. Watch our 'We are PCS Scotland’ video to learn more about what those demands.
To pressure candidates into supporting our charter, we launched a PCS e-action, through which members emailed their candidates asking them to ‘sign-up’ to our charter. Almost 5000 emails went to candidates, and their responses are now being analysed.
We also held a successful pre-election political hustings, created a members' guide on the importance of the second vote, provided a guide for reps and members on how to engage in political activities, ran educational briefings, and analysed the main political parties’ manifestos to produce a comparison briefing.
There remains much work to do in holding MSPs' feet to the fire as they begin their five-year term. To that end, the SEC is holding a ‘strategy day’ in late June to start work on regularly engaging these new elected officials though the PCS parliamentary group.
