Jobcentre members' consultation

The DWP group executive committee (GEC) is asking members to complete a survey to help us understand working conditions and the quality of services in Jobcentres.

Our online survey asks members whether there are enough staff to do the job, whether the way you are asked to deliver Jobcentre services is the best way to assist claimants into meaningful work and whether Jobcentre environments are fit for purpose.

Members' input into the survey will support our ongoing campaign for a properly staffed, fairer social security system that treats claimants with dignity and is genuinely designed to get them into good quality employment.

Green Paper response

PCS is also in the process of responding to Pathways to Work: Reforming Benefits and Support to Get Britain Working Green Paperwhich we believe will seriously and detrimentally impact people with disabilities, particularly those claiming PIP and Universal Credit health element. We would welcome your views which you can email to [email protected]

Jobcentre Inquiry

DWP group president Angela Grant gave evidence to The Jobcentre inquiry oral evidence session on 25 April following a detailed written submission by PCS. The session was intended to scrutinise the UK government’s proposals to reform Jobcentres and merge the National Careers Service with Jobcentre Plus.

Our submission covered a number of key concerns including:

  • Jobcentre safety and security
  • Keeping Jobcentre workers within the civil service
  • Support for staff and claimants
  • The mental health crisis in DWP
  • Suitability of the DWP estate to meet the government’s aims
  • Low staffing levels
  • The role and purpose of Jobcentre Plus.
