Met Police members out in force at New Scotland Yard

Dozens of leaflets were handed out to highlight pay inequality at Met Police outside New Scotland Yard as PCS activists urged colleagues to vote yes in the ballot as part of a week of activities.

PCS members are angry over a two-tier system where the London Allowance is only paid to police officers. We are balloting 6,500 members for strike action following the Met Police’s refusal to extend the £1,250 London Allowance to civilian police staff – despite previously agreeing to discuss it during 2024/25 pay talks.

Our members support the Met in roles like 999 call handling, intel analysis, HR, IT support, specialist technical support and have roles such as public access officers dealing with reported crime and custody staff.

Members have until noon on 9 October to vote in this postal ballot.

Today and later in the week, members are leafleting Cobalt Square, Lambeth police station, Empress State building and Marlowe House. Activists will also be texting members to get the vote out.

Group vice president Anne Bruce-Hou explained what the dispute is about: “This dispute is around the fact that the Met Police are paying £1250 to police officers but are saying they are unable to pay £1250 to police staff. In fact, they said they can’t justify paying £1250 to police staff, even though our members have the high expenses of living in London, high childcare expenses, high expenses of travelling into London, high cost of housing – whether that’s rent or mortgage. So, we think police staff deserve this money as much as their police colleagues.”

Vote yes in the ballot to send a message to the Met to end pay inequality.
