Ministry of Defence indecision must end, PCS warns
PCS members in our defence group are alarmed by the ongoing indecision with defence funding, which has reportedly led to the secretary of state's resignation.
PCS is the largest union in the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Our members within the department need the confidence that a well-funded defence investment plan will bring, enabling them to carry on supporting the military and defending the nation.
PCS today calls on Dan Jarvis, the new secretary of state, to meet with us to address our many concerns.
For too long now, PCS members have endured attacks on the staffing headcount as part of the 2025 'Strategic Defence 'Review'.
In 2025 the MoD introduced the Quad, a new four-person leadership structure created to, in its words, fix broken procurement systems, cut waste and modernise Britain's armed forces.
Yet this Quad setup has brought about problems for our members. Some are being asked to work in other parts of the Quad that employ staff on different pay and terms and conditions.
Proper funding could potentially resolve this. But because of a lack of clear decision-making and ongoing uncertainty over the Defence Investment Plan (DIP), management are fearful of equal pay claims.
PCS believes the MoD must also confirm the status of the arm’s length bodies. Will they be brought back into the MoD or retain their arm's length status?
