Palestine Solidarity Campaign stands with PCS members in Westminster

The organisation has rescheduled its parliamentary lobby to support PCS picket lines.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign has confirmed to PCS that, in an act of solidarity, it has rescheduled a lobby in parliament due to take place on 10 September, the date of the second 24-hour walk out by security staff at the Houses of Parliament.

PCS members are in dispute over changes to their terms and conditions and pay, including the loss of six days' annual leave and a worsening ethnicity pay gap.

PCS is a longstanding and proud supporter of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), standing on the front lines of national and regional demonstrations against the ongoing genocide in Gaza over the past two years and mobilising our members across the country to raise funds for PSC, Medical Aid for Palestine and other organisations on the ground. PCS is grateful for the solidarity and support shown by PSC, especially when our government continues to arm Israel and deny genocide.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “The situation in Gaza is unfathomable, we are witnessing the destruction of a people, of communities, entire families, all with the support of the UK and US governments, both of whom are yet to denounce the Israeli government’s actions as genocide.

"As a union PCS has always stood in solidarity with the oppressed, whether that’s in the UK, Columbia, Ukraine or Palestine; it is at the core of our values as a movement. We are therefore incredibly proud to not only have the support of PSC and its activists in our dispute at Westminster, but to once again mobilise for the vitally important national demo on 6 September and the lobby of parliament on 9 September.”

Ben Jamal, Director of PSC said: "PSC are proud of our affiliations with unions and the support of workers who have stood with the Palestinian liberation struggle for many years. Solidarity is a two-way relationship of course and we had no hesitation in re-scheduling our planned lobby of parliament to respect the PCS union picket line of striking security staff at parliament in their struggle for fair pay and conditions.

"Our lobby of MPs will now take place on 9 September. We look forward to welcoming PCS and all other union members on our national march for Palestine this Saturday in London, to demand an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza and UK government collusion with it."
