The PCS legal year in review 2025
Disability discrimination-related queries and redundancy disputes, pay and changes to terms and conditions, were the most common types of case among the 821 handled by the PCS legal department this year.
During 2025, the legal department saw a 7.31% increase in casework compared to the previous year. In the area of personal injury claims, the department referred 361 cases and successfully secured £1,238,610 in compensation for members, reinforcing our commitment to achieving tangible outcomes that improve members’ lives, and providing a further tool for PCS to ensure our member's health, safety and wellbeing is protected both in and out of work.
Also this year, the department has secured £462,644.80 in damages through employment tribunal claims and settlements.
Employment rights
Beyond casework, the team has been proactive in ensuring PCS remains prepared for upcoming changes under the employment rights bill. They have monitored legislative developments closely and provided guidance to ensure that both members and representatives are informed and ready to respond to new legal frameworks.
Looking ahead, the department will expand in the new year, with plans to recruit additional staff to increase capacity and strengthen support for members and reps. This growth reflects the union’s commitment to delivering high-quality legal services and enhancing our ability to respond swiftly to emerging challenges.
