PCS urges HMRC to intervene in Visa Sponsorship case

The R&C group secretary has written to the permanent secretary to ask him to intervene and help our member who will otherwise have to leave the UK by 4 January.

PCS is calling on HMRC permanent secretary JP Marks to urgently intervene in the case of a PCS member in the customer compliance group, who faces dismissal by 4 January 2026 due to HMRC’s refusal to apply for a Skilled Worker Visa on his behalf.

PCS has written to JP Marks highlighting serious concerns about HMRC’s handling of this case, including misleading assurances during recruitment, procedural failures, and a Visa Sponsorship policy that appears more restrictive than Home Office guidance. Legal advice obtained by PCS confirms that HMRC could sponsor our member if it chose to do so.

PCS believes this situation is deeply unfair and risks reputational damage to HMRC. We are urging HMRC to act now to prevent an unjust outcome and uphold its commitments to fairness and inclusion.

PCS will continue to press for a resolution and keep members updated.
