Support the FCDO picket lines
PCS members will take their first day of strike action this week over a planned restructure and lack of assurances over compulsory redundancies.
The members working for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) voted for strike action in a ballot that closed last month. It was in response to restructuring plans, a failure to meaningfully consult with unions, and the refusal to guarantee no compulsory redundancies.
We deserve better
One member said “I have routinely worked long hours, evening and weekends, often without pay or TOIL I have sacrificed my personal life, missing significant family events, including funerals, in service of my country. I have developed deep specialist expertise in my field and yet I now find myself at risk of redundancy.
“Through this process, there have been a profound lack of empathy, support, and understanding from senior leadership.
“We deserve better. We deserve respect, empathy, and leadership that recognises the sacrifices staff make. The way ExCo [senior management] has handled this process - at times appearing dismissive and patronising - has been deeply shocking and is not what I expect from FCDO. Instead of engaging their workforce they have enraged their workforce.”
