Standing up for the local area you want to be part of

Members and reps have shared why they’re voting on 7 May.

Met Police group vice president Anna said: “As an elected representative for nearly 7,000 members in London, I believe it’s really important that you vote this May. For me, voting is about standing up for the type of local area I want to be part of – one that values fairness, strong public services, and workers’ rights. By voting, we’re choosing to have a voice and help shape the direction we want to see.”

Saul, a member of the PCS NEC and Northern regional committee said: “With the deadline coming up (to register to vote) it’s more important than ever to register and use your vote in the council elections on 7 May.

We know the populist right and far-right are seeking to use these elections to gain a foothold in local communities, including here in Sunderland. We also know they don’t offer real solutions, only scapegoats.”

DWP member Fiona said: “I vote because it was a hard-fought battle by other women that gives me the right to do so now. My parents encouraged me to, and I've always encouraged my daughters to.”

Met Police rep Christopher said: “I will vote because people died to win it for me and others like me. I work in the public sector so I will vote for a party that cherishes our public sector and recognises our unique contribution.

I will vote for a party that values me, values my children, and will protect the planet. I will vote against the parties of hatred and division, and for love and inclusion. I will vote for a party who can and not for ones who make excuses.”

ARMs member Kevin said: “I vote, as all people should. If you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain about the council (or government), doing things that you don't like. Everything that they do is by the power you give them by voting them into power. (Same with union reps).”
